Hole is mine gameplay guide
Core gameplay loop: mining, impurities, and purification

Hole Is Mine is an incremental adventure about purifying a divine Hole. The core loop is simple to learn but keeps rewarding you: you launch Mini'Ohs into the Hole, they mine blocks for you, and you use what they gather to extract impurities and push the purification further. Every action feeds back into stronger mining, new upgrades, and more of the Hole opening up.
Dive inside and launch your Mini'Ohs to mine for you.
A typical mining session looks like this:
- Throw Mini'Ohs at blocks, one at a time or in batches, to break them and collect resources.
- Gather worms and loot as they drop. Worms are tracked from 100 all the way to 250,000 in the achievements.
- Extract impurities from the Hole, which is the main way you measure purification progress.
- Return to the Village to spend resources on upgrades, equipment, and rescuing more characters.
Your throw countbuilds permanent progress. Milestones like 88,777, and 1666 throws are tracked, so every launch counts. The same goes for blocks destroyed, from your first 100 blocks up to 8500, which makes mining efficiency a natural long-term goal.
Focus on extracting impurities early instead of hoarding resources. Purification progress unlocks new areas and upgrade paths, which makes every later mining run faster and more profitable.
Combat and exploration: throwing, hazards, and cave dives
Exploration happens through cave dives. There are four caves to complete, each with its own achievement:Deep,Deeper,Deepest, and Hyper Deepest. Completing the first cave is an early milestone, while the fourth cave is the final exploration challenge in the game.
Throwing is not just for mining. It is also how you interact with hazards and reach hidden spots. You can get stunned during a run, which triggers the "Auch!" achievement, so your positioning and aim matter when exploring unfamiliar ground.
- Learn your throw arc: well-aimed throws break more blocks and reach pockets hidden behind obstacles.
- Watch for stun hazards: getting hit wastes time and interrupts your mining flow mid-dive.
- Clear caves for separate rewards: cave completion is tracked independently from block destruction, so both are worth pursuing.
- Collect rare drops: Skulls are a rarer find with their own achievement, "People should pick up their things".
Loot also shows up in boxes. Your first loot box triggers "Looting Time!", and opening them regularly gives you equipment and items for the long run.
Mini'Ohs and customization: equipment, costumes, and powers
Mini'Ohs are your workers, and the game slowly builds your team. You rescue your first Mini'Oh early, reach 8 rescued Mini'Ohs for "The more the merrier", and eventually rescue all Mini'Ohs for "Now this is a Team".
Each Mini'Oh can equip six slots:Head,Back,Tool,Mask,Hair, and Costume. Filling all slots on one Mini'Oh earns "The Mini'Oh wears Prad'Ah", while collecting every type of equipment unlocks "Full closet".
- Head equipment: your first drop is tracked by the "Safety comes first" achievement.
- Back equipment and Tools: new slot types open as you find more loot.
- Masks and Hair: rarer drops, each with a first-time achievement ("Eyes Super Closed" and "Don't shave inside the Hole").
- Costumes: activating your first Costume triggers "You look wonderful!".
- Tentacles: your first Tentacle unlocks "Maniac Mansi'Oh", a sign of the stranger gear to come.
Customization is not just visual. The game describes giving your Mini'Ohs incredible powers, so mixing equipment pieces changes how your mining runs feel as you progress.
Progression systems: upgrades, achievements, and item use
Progression is layered across several systems, and nearly everything you do is counted. Your first upgrade triggers the "Kachin!" achievement, and from there the game keeps tracking throws, blocks, worms, item uses, and more.
- Upgrades: spend mined resources to improve mining power, purification speed, and other stats.
- Achievements: there are 38 achievements total, ending with "The Great Oh" for earning all of them.
- Items: consumables with active effects, tracked at 5,66, and 222 uses.
- Cloning: clone Mini'Ohs 333 times for the "Episode II" achievement.
- Saving and stats: the game supports Save Anytime, Steam Cloud, and Steam Stats, plus full controller support.
Item use is easy to neglect. Try to pop consumables whenever they are useful instead of hoarding them, because "Dispenser machine" and "Supermarket" reward consistent use over long sessions.
Check your achievement list often to find small goals you can knock out naturally. Many milestones, like 88 throws or 100 blocks, complete themselves within the first few minutes of play if you keep your Mini'Ohs busy.
Village building: rescueable NPCs and unlockable shops
The Village grows as you rescue NPCs from the Hole. Each rescue unlocks a new shop or service, and the ultimate goal is freeing the Village completely, which triggers the "Don't be a Hole" achievement.
- Rescue the Butcher: unlocks the Forge, with the "What were you doing there?" achievement.
- Rescue the Sailor: unlocks the Sea Shop, tracked by "Sailor Mo'Oh".
- Rescue the Builder: unlocks the Mushroom Shop, with the "I missed you, my home..." achievement.
- And more: additional NPCs and shops appear as you progress deeper.
Village progress is tied directly to your Mini'Oh team. Rescuing 8 Mini'Ohs is a solid mid-game target, while rescuing all Mini'Ohs is the final team goal. The "Don't be a Hole" achievement marks the moment when the Village is free and all your Mini'Ohs love you.
Mid-game goals: deeper caves, secrets, and end-game milestones
Once the basic loop is running smoothly, the mid-game shifts to deeper caves, hidden secrets, and achievement completion. The game rewards players who revisit old areas with new equipment and who check suspicious walls for hidden loot.
Useful milestones to aim for:
- Complete all four caves: Deep, Deeper, Deepest, and Hyper Deepest.
- Destroy 8500 blocks: the "Blockbuster" achievement is the final mining count.
- Collect 250,000 worms: the "Butterfly" achievement ends the worm track.
- Throw 1666 times: the "Louis" achievement is the deepest throw milestone.
- Equip every slot type: "Full closet" requires collecting all types of equipment.
- Free the Village and finish the set: rescue every NPC and Mini'Oh, then earn "The Great Oh" for all achievements.
Secrets are an intended part of the journey. The game's own description points to hidden secrets that help grow the Village, so explore off the main path, open every loot box you find, and revisit earlier caves after unlocking new equipment. The end-game is less about a single final boss and more about completing every tracked system the game offers.
